After an enjoyable morning in the Baby room observing a child who has global developmental delay, I enjoyed interviewing the Champion Centre’s Director, Dr Susan Foster-Cohen.
Susan’s Role at the Champion Centre is a strategic one which includes building relationships with external agencies and Government bodies. She also liaises closely with other Early Intervention Services as well as being responsible for the budget of the Champion Centre and staff recruitment, training and development. Her working day is very varied and long, but she enjoys the challenges it brings.
Susan has worked at the Centre for over a decade having started her career there as a Researcher after working in various Universities previously. She is widely published in the area of child development and linguistics and presents her work internationally. She is also an Associate Professor at Canterbury University. The interview will inform the project report from my visit to the Champion Centre and you can read more about it when the report is published later in the year.
